2024 GOOD DESIGN AWARD winners announced! This year sees the start of “EVERYONE'S CHOICE FOR GOOD DESIGN”

1,579 winners were selected out of the 5,773 entries screened

In this year's GOOD DESIGN AWARDS, 1,579 award winning objects were selected out of 5,773 entries (by 1,142 companies) after a rigorous screening process lasting around six months under the message theme of “Brave Attitude, Organic Design.” The number of entries this year was the second largest ever, and the geographical scope of these entries has widened to encompass not only the whole of Japan but also 22 countries.

The updated GOOD DESIGN GRAND AWARD

From this year, the selection method for the GOOD DESIGN GRAND AWARD has changed, and the new “EVERYONE'S CHOICE FOR GOOD DESIGN” is also starting!

Changes to the selection method for the GOOD DESIGN GRAND AWARD

・Candidates for the GOOD DESIGN GRAND AWARD will not be the finalists (5 designs) but the GOOD DESIGN GOLD AWARD winners (20 designs). ・The judges and the winners will vote to select the GRAND AWARD. ・The results of the vote will be announced at the award ceremony, held on November 5.

The newly established “EVERYONE'S CHOICE FOR GOOD DESIGN”

・At the GOOD DESIGN AWARD winners' exhibition, visitors will vote for “EVERYONE'S CHOICE FOR GOOD DESIGN”. (The voting period is from November 1 to 4.) ・In addition to visitors to the winners' exhibition, the guests at the ceremony (the judges and this year's award winners) will also vote. ・The results of the vote will be announced at the award ceremony, held on November 5.

The GOLD AWARD winner and the winner of “EVERYONE'S CHOICE FOR GOOD DESIGN” will make presentations at the award ceremony.

Introduction of GOLD AWARD winners (candidates for the GOOD DESIGN GRAND AWARD)

The GOOD DESIGN GOLD AWARDS are the ECONOMY, TRADE AND INDUSTRY MINISTER'S AWARDS, and there are 20 in total. This year, as many as 4 designs were selected from the field of Unit 8 [Equipment and Facilities for Manufacturing and Medical Care], one of 19 units. When asked about this trend, Shigenori Asakura, an industrial designer and the leader of Unit 8, told us, “This fiscal year, there were objects related to semiconductor manufacturing, which is a strength of Japan's, and objects which contribute to global warming countermeasures. Semiconductors and global warming are both very important issues for the creation of a sustainable future. I think that the fact that there were designs which can become solutions to these global issues led to this result.”

The 2024 award winners' exhibition will be held from November 1!

The “GOOD DESIGN EXHIBITION 2024” will be held in Tokyo Midtown for five days from November 1. All the winners of the 2024 GOOD DESIGN AWARDS announced today will be on show. Among the award winning objects, the GOOD DESIGN BEST 100, which were evaluated particularly highly, will be displayed in a special section. In addition, the award winning objects of the “LONG LIFE DESIGN AWARD,” which is awarded to long-beloved designs, will also be introduced.

A vote by visitors to the award winners' exhibition for “EVERYONE'S CHOICE FOR GOOD DESIGN” will also be held! Please come and take part.
