Design can make an era

What can design do?

“I think design can make an era. It may be a subtle change in a small domain or something that can't be easily understood by others. But after all, producing design continues to change our society.”

I oppose the ambiguity of the word “design”

What can design do?

“Anything. To be more precise, these days, the word “design” has various meanings and we are prone to blindly believe that design can solve anything. This is nothing but a mirage. I believe that people who engage in design like us should oppose the ambiguity of this word. However, at the same time, I was strongly attracted by the ambiguity of design when I first encountered it. And I feel as if that's the exact reason that I chose the path of design. We need to believe in the infinite possibilities of design to practice design. That's why I like to believe that design has no limitation.”

Tips for knowing and thinking equally

What can design do?

“Create opportunities. Design is a communication tool without language boundaries that all humans can learn equally. Design makes humans think over, pursue, counteract, and improve things. These opportunities are created and provided by design.”

Design keeps society from going the wrong way

What can design do?

“Observe minor everyday discomfort and keep society from going the wrong way. In today's rapidly changing society, little distortions continue to accumulate. If we keep turning a blind eye to these distortions, it will be too late for us to fix them by the time we realize it. I believe design plays a role to observe minor discomfort and tune distortions.”

Sequence of ideas toward novelty

What can design do?

“One person's ideas inspire the ideas of another. In this way, we can create a big sequence. In addition, I believe the positive impression on design created by such a sequence broadens the outlook of people and companies who were indifferent to design so far and encourages them to work on something new.”
